Google Nest Cams and Nest Doorbells’ subscription costs have increased by as much as 33%, making them significantly more expensive if you want to use all of their security features.
The cost of the Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscriptions are increasing, as reported by 9to5Google, which may make you rethink paying for the advantages they provide, such as cloud video histories and intelligent alerts.
The basic Nest Aware subscription will now cost $8 per month or $80 per year in the US, a significant increase from the previous pricing of $6 per month / $60 per year (33%, to be exact). Nest Aware Plus now costs $15 per month or $150 per year (a 25% price increase), and it gives you 60 days of video history as opposed to 30 days.
Even though Google has only yet informed its US customers about the price changes, they most likely portend changes for other regions as well.
We’ve contacted Google to ask if this will be the case in the UK and to provide information on the new pricing. (Update 4/9/23: Google has confirmed that Nest Aware will now cost $6 per month or $60 per year in the UK, while Nest Aware Plus will cost $12 per month or $120 per year.
New US subscribers will be charged more immediately, and current Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus customers will begin receiving their unwelcome price increase on their November 6th bill.
In May 2020, those two subscription services essentially replaced the Nest 1st generation plan, which had a $5 monthly starting price and offered five days of 24/7 rolling cloud video storage (a feature that is now only included with Nest Aware Plus).
On the plus side, unlike its earlier per-device plans, the current Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus plans do cover all of your Google Nest devices. Therefore, if you have several cameras or doorbells, one (albeit expensive) subscription will cover them all.
