Body Camera Footage from July 14th Shooting to Be Released

In order to discuss video evidence from surveillance systems and police body cameras related to the police shooting in Fargo, North Dakota on July 14, 2023, Attorney General Drew Wrigley and Fargo Police Chief David Zibolski will hold a news conference.

On Thursday, August 17, at 10:30 a.m., a press conference will be held. at 225 4th Street North is the address of Fargo City Hall. The news conference will be broadcast live by Valley News Live on air, online, and on our Valley News Live Facebook page.

On the afternoon of July 14, according to authorities, Mohamed Barakat opened fire on police and emergency personnel as they were responding to a routine traffic accident on 25th Street South in Fargo. Andrew Dotas and Tyler Hawes, two police officers, were shot and are in critical condition. Jake Wallin, an officer, was shot and killed while attempting to tackle the suspect. Officers were able to take Barakat into custody where he later died after he exchanged gunfire with Wallin’s training officer, Zach Robinson.

The Fargo Street Fair may have been the target of Barakat’s larger, mass-victimization attack, the North Dakota BCI concluded after conducting its investigation. He was driving a car that contained propane tanks loaded with homemade explosives, multiple firearms, 1,800 live rounds of ammunition, a grenade, and a grenade.

The officers’ use of force, according to the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, was authorized and necessary in the circumstances.

Karlee Koswick, a spectator who was also injured severely after being caught in the crossfire, is making a full recovery. After staying in the hospital for a few weeks, officers Dotas and Hawes were discharged.
