Man Arrested on Suspicion of Arson After Caught on Doorbell Camera

SURPRISE, Ariz. – After a man was allegedly caught on a doorbell camera setting the victim’s front door on fire, the Surprise Police Department detained him on suspicion of arson.

36-year-old Justin Winjum was charged with one count of arson of an occupied structure and criminal mischief and lodged in the Maricopa County Jail.

On December 23, close to Greenway Road and Bullard Avenue, Winjum is alleged to have been caught on camera using an unidentified flammable accelerant to set a house on fire.

Pictures of the suspect taken from the victim’s doorbell camera were published by the Surprise Police Department.

Officials claim that Winjum was identified thanks to information from the local community.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
