iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus Could Still Have Smaller Camera Sensor

Despite having a 48-megapixel camera, Apple’s iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models may still have a smaller sensor than the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. This is the rumor that was recently posted on Weibo.

The claim comes from “Digital Chat Station,” a A Weibo user is in charge of a variety of information regarding the camera hardware in upcoming iPhone models. First, they assert that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will have the same 1.28-inch, 48-megapixel sensor as the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The two standard iPhone 15 models are expected to receive the same 48-megapixel upgrade as the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, according to a number of reports from sources including the analysts Jeff Pu and Ming-Chi Kuo.

While the non-Pro models will get an upgrade to 48 megapixels, Digital Chat Station claims that they will still have a smaller stacked CMOS image sensor (CIS) than the Pro models, measuring 1/1.5 inches.

A 12-megapixel sensor measuring 1/1.9 inches in size is present on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. As a result, the standard “iPhone 15” models could get a 27% larger sensor, which would be a significant improvement but still not match the “iPhone 14 Pro” and “iPhone 15 Pro” models in terms of sensor size.

The next ‌iPhone‌ sensor size increase for the Pro models is scheduled to take place in 2024 and will go from 1.28 inches to 1.14 inches, according to a May report from Digital Chat Station.

Larger image sensors provide better image quality by capturing more light, which results in more detail and less noise, particularly in low-light situations. Additionally, it offers a wider dynamic range and better color accuracy, producing images that are more polished and aesthetically pleasing.
