First Sample Backs Up The Hype About Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 200MP Camera

Both Apple and Google have now openly adopted higher resolution cameras, implying that computational photography has its limits. A purported camera sample that has surfaced today suggests that Samsung will once again outperform its competitors this year with a 200MP sensor for the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 108MP camera, and thanks to its performance, it has earned a spot on the list of the best camera phones of 2022. The S23 Ultra is rumored to have a 200MP camera in place of the 108MP sensor.

Despite the fact that some manufacturers have already released smartphones with 200MP Samsung sensors, these are not the same as the HP2 sensor that the company has reserved for its upcoming premium flagship.

The sensor will reportedly have unmatched analytical power and be superior to all other 200MP sensors we have seen so far, according to rumors, the majority of which came from trustworthy leaker Ice Universe. The phone’s nighttime photography capabilities are said to be significantly improved, and its video performance is also said to have significantly increased.

A larger aperture for capturing light and a slight increase in size over the 108MP unit were also predicted in earlier rumors.

Ice even posted a picture on Weibo (via Galaxy Club) to support his claim that this will be the biggest improvement in five years.

The leaker doesn’t specifically state that the 200MP sample is from the S23 Ultra, but given that he has compared it to an image captured by a 108MP camera, we assume he is attempting to demonstrate how the main camera of the Galaxy S23 Ultra compares to the S22 Ultra.

The image is difficult to identify, but it is obvious that the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s 200MP sensor performs noticeably better at capturing even the minute details. Despite depicting the same thing, the images are as different as day and night.

It goes without saying that the S23 Ultra will have better software smarts because Samsung has been working diligently on the computational side of things and recently rolled out the coveted astrophotography mode to the S22 Ultra.

Although the S23 Ultra won’t have a greater zoom than the S22 Ultra, Ice has also revealed that the 3x and 10x telephoto units will have other improvements, such as better color reproduction.

With a 6.8-inch screen and a 5,000mAh battery, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is anticipated to maintain the S22 Ultra’s specifications. The rumored Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to power it, and it will reportedly also share the same general aesthetic as its predecessor.

Ice has expressed concern about the cost of the phone, which raises the possibility that it will be more expensive than the already costly Galaxy S22 Ultra. The Galaxy S23 series from Samsung could debut in January of the following year.
