Periscope Lens Camera Rumored to Be Limited to iPhone 15 Pro Max

According to a leaker, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the only model with a periscope lens, enticing buyers to the priciest model.

A system known as a periscope lens employs a prism and a number of lenses to boost a device’s optical zoom capabilities without necessarily making a smartphone thicker. Although it is anticipated that the technology will appear in a future iPhone, a leaker claims that it will only appear on one member of the iPhone 15 family.

In a Monday tweet, leaker @URedditor says they have “Finally received independent confirmation” that the periscope lens will be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The short tweet isn’t expanded upon by the leaker, with a follow-up adding “No additional information can be made public at this time.” However, in response to a question from a follower asking if the camera layout will have changed, they replied “Not really.”

The existence of a periscope lens has been the subject of persistent rumors, many of which suggested that only the Pro models would be receiving one. The entire iPhone 16 range could be included, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested in July 2022.

However, in January 2023, Kuo tweeted that only the “highest-end model” in the iPhone 16 series will have a periscope camera.

Leaker @Uredditor, aka “Unknownz21,” does have a fairly short, but accurate, history of leaks. This includes obtaining pre-release iOS 14 code and leaking the “Gobi” Later on, scannable App Clips were created from AR codes.

They have also spread rumors about the USB-C port on an iPhone 15 Pro being visible in a picture and that Wi-Fi 6E support will only be available for the Pro line of devices.
